Definition: In Canada, the sergeant-at-arms is a senior official of the House of Commons responsible for the security and building services of the House of Commons. The sergeant-at-arms is appointed by the governor in council. The sergeant-at-arms carries the mace, the symbol of the authority of the House, in the daily parade into the House of Commons chamber.
